DEFENSIVE PISTOL
Build Skills That Hold Up Under Pressure
Progressive handgun training for shooters ready to move beyond the fundamentals. Build practical skills, improve decision-making, and add complexity at a pace appropriate to your experience.
Defensive Pistol Training
Defensive pistol courses are designed for students who want to move beyond basic marksmanship and continue developing practical handgun skills.
Sessions may include holster work, firearm presentation, defensive accuracy, reload techniques including administrative, tactical, and emergency reloads, malfunction clearing, movement, cover vs. concealment, shooting from different positions, target transitions, one-handed shooting, shooting from retention, and other skills appropriate to the student’s experience level.
More advanced training may incorporate drawing from concealment, multiple-target engagement, movement to and from cover, and decision-making exercises.

Progressive Training
Good firearms training is not one-size-fits-all. Defensive Pistol training is designed to build skills progressively, starting at an appropriate level and adding complexity as safety, consistency, and proficiency improve.
Some courses may have prerequisites or require demonstrated firearm-handling ability before participation. More advanced training may also require prior holster experience or completion of specific foundational skills.
If you are unsure which level is appropriate, we can help you choose the best place to start.
Skills We Build
Defensive Pistol training develops the individual skills needed to safely and effectively manage a handgun in more complex situations.
Specific skills and drills vary by course level and student experience.
Defensive Accuracy & Target Transitions
Build accuracy at realistic defensive distances while learning to transition efficiently between targets and maintain control as speed and complexity increase.
Holster Work & Firearm Presentation
Develop a safe, consistent draw and return to the holster from open carry and, when appropriate, concealment. Training may include garment clearing, presentation from different positions, and accessing the firearm under varying conditions.
Reloads & Malfunction Management
Practice administrative, tactical, and emergency reloads along with recognizing and clearing common firearm malfunctions efficiently and safely.
Movement, Positioning & Cover
Learn to move safely with a firearm, understand cover vs. concealment, move to and from cover, and work from standing, kneeling, seated, and other shooting positions.
One-Handed & Close-Range Skills
Develop strong-hand and support-hand shooting skills, firearm manipulation with one hand, and shooting from retention when appropriate to the course level.
Decision-Making & Practical Application
Apply individual skills in drills that require more than simply firing at a stationary target. More advanced training may incorporate multiple targets, movement, changing shooting positions, use of cover, and shoot/don’t-shoot decision-making.
WHO IT'S FOR
Defensive Pistol is intended for shooters who are already comfortable with basic firearm safety, operation, and marksmanship and are ready to apply those skills in more complex training.
Students should be able to safely load and unload their firearm, clear the handgun, follow range commands, and maintain safe muzzle and trigger-finger discipline without constant coaching.
Some courses may also require prior holster training or demonstrated proficiency with drawing and reholstering.
